Spaceaudit, the predecessor company to Spacedox, was founded in early 1993 to create and maintain accurate as-built floor plans and square footage calculations for commercial and industrial clients.

One Spaceaudit client, the US Postal Service, became the first Spacedox customer in 2004.  The Post Office wanted ubiquitous access to floor plans.  They also required a system that "non-moxie" users throughout the USPS could easily access and view floor plans.  With over 34,000 buildings and nearly 1,000,000 employees, the USPS requirements were a tall order.

Richard Obendorf, the founder, while researching for collaboration programs and services for the USPS found that most were expensive and hard to use.  With the help of the USPS and God (not necessarily in that order), he decided to launch Spacedox as a SAS (software as a service).  Sas gave Richard the flexibility to choose the "best of class" software without actually getting into the software development business.

It was, and still is, his great desire to provide collaborative services that are both useful and affordable.

In early 2006 DoxPress Reprographics was added then in late 2006 DoxCam Time-lapse was introduced.  While developing DoxCam, Richard was unable to find software that provide all the collaborative features he wanted for his clients.  He went over to the dark side and developed his own application and had it integrated with Spacedox.  DoxCam has been a hit.
